A Bridge To The Future

Since I began my campaign, I’ve spoken with thousands of residents who are frustrated with traffic congestion and limited transit options. I have heard over and over again that traffic congestion is the #1 concern for many residents, and the bottleneck for our traffic gridlock is our 1960s bridge infrastructure. Our region is growing, and our infrastructure needs to keep pace. I’m committed to addressing the transportation challenges facing our community.

It’s time for bold common sense change.

Under the Get BC Moving plan, we will support the construction of a new Ironworkers Memorial Bridge with expanded capacity for both vehicles and public transit. This upgrade is essential to easing congestion, reducing commute times, and making public transit a more viable option for North Vancouver - Seymour residents.

Additionally, we will reverse the decision to remove the Eastbound Lane on Main Street which is dedicated to local traffic. The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s (MOTI) plan to remove the dedicated lane would worsen traffic conditions and burden local drivers. After listening to residents’ concerns, I’m committed to keeping that lane open to ensure smoother, more efficient traffic for our community.

Here’s how we plan to fund it:

  • Reduce Waste: - End mismanaged projects like the $3.8B North Shore Wastewater Plant, which cost taxpayers the equivalent of a new bridge. The BC Conservatives will ensure better oversight and responsible spending, allowing us to deploy resources towards infrastructure projects.

  • Reduce Bureaucratic Bloat: Cut unnecessary government growth — 31% in 7 years, with no improvement in services. We’ll trim excess bureaucracy without affecting essential services, and invest the savings in our aging infrastrucure.

  • Generate Infrastructure Funds: Develop our economy and our vast reserves of natural resources in an environmentally sustainable manner, and leverage those revenues for our infrastructure projects. Charge companies an “infrastructure fee” for the right to use our resources, similar to how Norway did with its oil reserves and its Sovereign Wealth Fund.

  • Fight for Federal Funding: We’ll demand BC’s fair share of federal funds for critical infrastructure projects, ensuring the federal government contributes its part to what our communities need.

Transportation affects everything in our lives — from getting to work, getting home to our loved ones, and accessing essential services. We deserve an infrastructure system that works for us.

As North Vancouver-Seymour’s next MLA, I will be dedicated to empowering our community to thrive. I will work to provide the tools we need, including improved roads, enhanced public transit, and a more connected community for all.
